EAST LONGMEADOW --
HIGH SCHOOL -- The School Committee voted 3-0 on Sept. 21 to accept a $1,000 donation to the athletic department's revolving account from the Bay State Games, which named East Longmeadow High School a winner of its High School Spirit Award for the school's size category (500 to 1,000 students) based on participation in the 2026 Bay State Summer Games. The committee also accepted a $4,000 Connecting Activities Grant, a reimbursement-based award intended to support career-readiness programming, including transportation for students.
Student representative Katie Powell told the committee the student council is organizing a tailgate event, spirit week and pep rally for homecoming ahead of the football team's game against Longmeadow.
At the new high school building, Assistant Superintendent for Business Pamela Blair reported the natatorium's pool was filled for the first time on Friday, Sept. 18, with a public open house planned for Nov. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. Athletic fields under construction behind the central office are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with hopes they will be ready for use in fall 2027. A separate building open house is set for Saturday, Oct. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The committee also reviewed nine separate requests from local businesses to advertise on the football field for the season, but members raised questions about whether the sponsorship banners were tied specifically to high school games or would remain up for other events on the field, and asked staff to clarify the scope before finalizing approval.
